About Us
Flip and her critters! Rhonda and I have an extensive background in the livestock industry. Rhonda grew up on a small cattle ranch near where we currently live and later graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and currently teaches high school English. I grew up in Duncanville, Texas and eventually graduated from Texas A&M at Commerce and currently teach Agriculture. We have one daughter, Olivia Ann (aka Flip - long story), and we all enjoy spending time caring for our animals.
Flip participated in her first goat show this year at the Choctaw County Fair.
As you can see her hard work paid off and she didn't forget to share the glory with Blondie, her doe. Along with our love of the goats, we also have a deep fondness for dogs. We have a black Lab female that is very special to us. She is now retired from the puppy business and is spending her retirement at leisure.
Pictured above are the beginnings of our guarding herd. We recently lost our Max. Max was the greatest guard dog anyone could hope for. He loved his goats and did an outstanding job of protecting them, but above that he loved us. I have mentioned our little girl, Flip. Max was her first dog. We would take her outside in her stroller when she was just days old and if Max heard her become upset, he would run from where ever he was to tend to her. One of her first words was "Maa", which was her way of calling Max. We are not sure exactly what has happened to Max but we miss him desperately. He was also a sort of mediator between all of the dogs. He knew what dogs belonged around our neighborhood and which ones didn't. Since he's been gone we almost lost our elderly blue healer to the other guard dogs. This too would have been tragic since Bob is another member or our family. We would love to have our Max back, but is that is not possible we would be interested in finding another wonderful dog like him. Max is the gentleman with the steel gray mask; that was part of his character. We would be interested to know if anyone has any puppies with similar physical features and personality traits. We have been told by all kinds of people that you can't make pets out of your guard dogs, but hands down Max is the best dog we have every had the pleasure of knowing and as far as his protection habits were concerned, he protected us all, including Flip, and that meant the world to us. |
